How others can help

Supporting a breastfeeding parent

The support and encouragement of a partner is important to the success of breastfeeding. There are lots of ways you can support a breastfeeding parent:

  • bring them a drink and snack and make sure they’re comfortable
  • remind them they’re doing a good job – a few words of encouragement go a long way
  • enjoy skin-to-skin cuddles with baby, it’s a great way to bond
  • take care of the house and any other children

Bonding with baby

It’s important for dads and non-birthing parents to bond with their baby too. You can do this by:

  • changing nappies
  • bathing and soothing your baby
  • singing
  • reading
  • playing with your baby
